COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Development Economics offers a structured program of core modules designed to provide a solid foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied research. In the autumn term, students engage with Analytical Methods in Economics, Development Microeconomics, Econometric Methods 1, and Microeconomic Analysis, developing essential analytical and statistical skills alongside a thorough understanding of microeconomic principles in development contexts. The spring term builds on this foundation with Development Macroeconomics, Econometric Methods 2, Macroeconomic Analysis, and Research Methods for Economics, allowing students to extend their knowledge of macroeconomic theory, econometric techniques, and empirical research methods. Throughout the course, students learn to critically evaluate development policies and apply rigorous analytical tools to real-world economic challenges. In the summer term, students complete a Dissertation in Economics, conducting independent research on a topic of their choice under expert supervision, demonstrating the application of theoretical knowledge and methodological skills gained during the program. The combination of core modules ensures graduates are well-equipped to understand complex economic issues, design and evaluate development policies, and communicate economic analysis effectively. This training prepares students for careers in government, international organisations, consultancy, and research, as well as for further doctoral study in economics and development studies.
