COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cosmology and Astrophysics at Sussex provides a rigorous and research-focused curriculum, combining core modules with optional courses to give students a comprehensive understanding of theoretical and computational astrophysics. All students complete the MSc Project Research Skills module throughout the year, equipping them with essential research techniques and analytical abilities. In the autumn term, core modules include Cosmology and General Relativity, offering a foundation in the physics of the universe and the principles governing spacetime. In the spring, students progress to Advanced Cosmology, deepening their knowledge of the early universe and numerical cosmology. The program culminates with the MSc Project P&A during the spring and summer, where students undertake an independent research project under expert supervision, allowing them to apply theoretical and computational skills to a topic of their choice. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific interests, with choices in areas such as Data Analysis Techniques, Galactic Astrophysics, Programming through Python, Quantum Field Theory, Advanced Quantum Field Theory, Astrophysical Processes, Frontiers in Particle Physics, Monte Carlo Simulations, and Stellar and Planetary Physics. This structure ensures graduates gain strong theoretical knowledge, practical research experience, and computational skills, preparing them for careers in astrophysics, cosmology, or further doctoral research.
