COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Conservation Science at Sussex combines core modules with optional courses to provide a comprehensive understanding of conservation, biodiversity, and environmental management. Core modules give all students a solid foundation, with autumn teaching covering Research Foundations, while the spring and summer terms focus on the MRes Research Project in Evolution, Behaviour, or Conservation, allowing students to conduct in-depth, independent research. Optional modules provide opportunities to tailor the course to individual interests, with autumn options including Conservation Biology and Biodiversity, Current Topics in Evolution, Behaviour and Conservation, Digital Journalism, Masters Tropical Rainforest Field Course, Rewilding and Ecosystem Services, and The Science of Climate Change. Spring options further enhance practical and field-based learning through Advanced Conservation Biology, Field Biology and Conservation Skills, Masters African Zoology Field Course, and Masters Mediterranean Ecology Field Course. These modules combine theoretical instruction with hands-on experience, equipping students to analyze ecological systems, develop conservation strategies, and apply research methods to real-world challenges. The program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and integrates ecological, social, and policy perspectives, preparing graduates for careers in research, environmental management, conservation organizations, and related fields.
