COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Computing at Sussex is a conversion course designed for students from non-computer science backgrounds who wish to develop a career in computing or enhance their employment prospects. The program combines core modules with optional modules, providing a strong foundation in computing principles while allowing students to specialise in areas of interest. In the autumn term, students study core modules such as Algorithmic Data Science, Programming through Python, and Systems for Information Management, which equip them with essential programming, analytical, and data management skills. In the spring term, students complete an individual MSc project that allows them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges, further developing problem-solving, research, and technical skills. Optional modules expand learning opportunities and include topics such as Algorithmic Approaches to Mathematics, E-Business and E-Commerce Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Video Production Techniques, Image Processing, Machine Learning, and Engineering Scalable and Reliable Software Projects. This structure enables students to tailor their studies to specific career paths, from artificial intelligence and software engineering to human-centred computing and multimedia technologies. The course is informed by cutting-edge research within the Department of Informatics, providing students with up-to-date knowledge and practical experience. Graduates leave the program well-prepared for roles in software development, AI, system design, and related computing fields, or to pursue further research and study.
