COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience at Sussex combines core and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of the brain and its relationship to cognition, behaviour, and clinical conditions. Core modules give students a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of neuroscience. In the autumn term, students study An Adventure in Statistics, Research Reform and Open Science, The Social and Emotional Brain, and Topics in Cognitive Neuroscience, developing essential research, analytical, and conceptual skills. In the spring term, core modules include Brain Imaging Methods and Clinical Neuroscience, offering hands-on training in neuroimaging techniques, experimental design, and understanding neurological and psychiatric disorders. The program culminates in a Research Dissertation completed in the spring and summer terms, where students conduct an independent project under expert supervision, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical research experience. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, such as the Neuroscience of Consciousness, Programming for Experiments, and The Brain Across the Life Span, providing opportunities to deepen knowledge in specialised areas. Throughout the course, students gain expertise in advanced research methods, data analysis, and cognitive and clinical neuroscience, preparing them for doctoral study or careers in neuroscience research, data science, psychology consultancy, clinical professions, or related fields. The program emphasizes both technical proficiency and critical thinking.
