COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Cancer and Genomic Medicine at Sussex combines core modules with optional courses to provide comprehensive training in cancer biology and genomic research. Core modules ensure all students develop a solid foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. In the autumn term, students study Advanced Methods in Molecular Research, Fundamentals of Cancer Cell Biology, and Practical Techniques in Cancer Cell Biology, establishing essential laboratory and analytical skills. Spring teaching includes Current Topics in Cancer Research and the Life Sciences Masters Research Proposal, which prepare students to design and plan independent research projects. The spring and summer terms are dedicated to the Life Sciences Master of Science Research Project, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills to a substantial, original investigation in cancer biology. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies, with spring options including Genome Instability in Disease and Cancer, Genomics and Bioinformatics, and Structural Basis of Protein Mechanism, providing additional specialization in areas of molecular and genomic research. By combining rigorous theoretical training, practical laboratory experience, and independent research, the MSc equips graduates with the skills and knowledge needed for careers in academic research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, and related fields, as well as preparing them for further doctoral study. The program develops both technical expertise and critical understanding, enabling students to contribute effectively to advancements in cancer research and therapeutic development.
