COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Medical Technology at Sussex combines core modules and a substantial research project to provide students with a thorough understanding of the application of engineering and technology in healthcare. Core modules give all students a solid foundation, with autumn teaching covering Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Applied Anatomy, Introduction to Biochemistry and Physiology, and Medical Instrumentation, equipping students with essential knowledge in both medical science and engineering principles. In the spring term, students study Biomaterials and Biocompatibility, Image Processing, Strategic Management, and Wearable Technologies, allowing them to explore the development and application of advanced medical devices and technologies while gaining insights into project planning and management. The spring and summer terms are focused on the MSc Project, where students conduct an independent, research-led investigation under the supervision of academics, integrating theoretical learning with practical problem-solving. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art facilities, including robotics and virtual reality labs, and develop skills in medical instrumentation, data analysis, and biomedical design. The combination of interdisciplinary teaching, practical training, and research experience equips graduates with the expertise, analytical ability, and professional skills needed to pursue careers in medical technology, biomedical engineering, healthcare innovation, and related research fields, as well as preparation for further doctoral study.
