COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Evolution, Behaviour, and Conservation at Sussex provides students with a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing environmental challenges. Core modules begin with Research Foundations in the autumn, giving students the methodological and analytical skills needed for independent scientific inquiry. The course culminates in the MRes Research Project, allowing students to undertake substantial research in evolution, behaviour, or conservation, applying their knowledge to real-world ecological questions. Alongside core modules, a wide range of options enables students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. In the autumn, options include Conservation Biology and Biodiversity, Current Topics in Evolution, Behaviour and Conservation, Digital Journalism, the Masters Tropical Rainforest Field Course, Rewilding and Ecosystem Services, and The Science of Climate Change. Spring options include Advanced Conservation Biology, Field Biology and Conservation Skills, Masters African Zoology Field Course, and Masters Mediterranean Ecology Field Course, providing hands-on experience in diverse ecological contexts. The program emphasizes practical skills, interdisciplinary perspectives, and critical thinking, preparing students to address pressing conservation issues globally. Graduates leave with strong research capabilities, field experience, and the knowledge to contribute to conservation policy, ecological management, scientific research, and environmental advocacy, equipped to make a meaningful impact on biodiversity and ecosystem sustainability.
