COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Philosophy at Sussex combines core modules, optional study, and a dissertation to provide a comprehensive and research-focused program. Core modules give students a strong foundation in philosophical research and thinking. In the spring term, Emerging Research in Philosophy introduces students to contemporary debates and methods in philosophical inquiry, while the dissertation, completed in the summer term, allows students to undertake an independent, in-depth research project under expert supervision. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies to specific interests and explore specialised topics, including Ethics and Normativity, World, Body, and Mind, Ideology and the Political, and Sex, Work and Reproduction. Through these options, students engage with both analytic and continental traditions, developing critical skills in reasoning, analysis, and ethical evaluation.
