COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Migration and Refugee Studies offers a combination of core modules and optional courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of migration and displacement. Core modules, which all students take, provide a strong foundation in the field. In the autumn term, students study Global Governance of Migration and Refugees and Migrants and Society: Global Transformations, while the spring term focuses on Research Methods and Professional Skills, preparing students for independent research. The summer term is dedicated to the dissertation, allowing students to explore a specific topic in depth, with an option to undertake a placement for practical experience. Alongside the core curriculum, students can choose from a range of optional modules designed to broaden their knowledge and tailor the course to their interests. Options available in the spring include Migrant Transnationalism, Refugees and Diaspora, Navigating the Complexities of Forced Migration and Displacement, and Re-imagining Humanitarian Responses to Displacement. While the course aims to accommodate students’ preferred choices, selections may be subject to timetabling and grouped options. By combining theoretical study with research and practical experience, the program equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to understand and address the complex issues surrounding migration, refugees, and displacement, preparing them for careers in academia, NGOs, government, and international organizations.
