COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Relations offers a structured blend of core and optional modules that provide a deep understanding of global politics and the analytical tools to engage with contemporary international challenges. Core modules form the foundation of the program, helping students build theoretical knowledge and research skills essential for advanced study and professional application. In the autumn term, students take Foundations of World Politics and International Relations Theory, which introduce the key concepts, debates, and frameworks shaping the discipline. The spring term includes Research Methods and Professional Skills, equipping students with methodological expertise and practical tools for independent research and career development. The program culminates in a summer dissertation, allowing students to explore a topic of their choice in depth, or alternatively, complete a Dissertation with Placement through the Global Studies department for hands-on experience. Optional modules enable students to tailor their learning, covering diverse topics such as Conflict, Peace, and the Places in Between; Managing Economic Instability; The Global Politics of Environment, Justice and Development; Migrant Transnationalism, Refugees and Diaspora; and Violence and (In)security: Feminist, Queer and Anti-colonial Perspectives. This combination of theoretical grounding and applied learning prepares graduates for impactful careers in diplomacy, policy, international organisations, and global advocacy.
