COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in International Political Economy provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the global economy and its social, political, and environmental impacts. Core modules give a solid grounding in key theories and research methods, including the study of neoliberalism, global economic crises, and critical approaches to political economy. Students explore the dynamics of global financial systems, development, inequality, and the influence of multinational corporations, while examining innovative policies and practices that respond to economic and social challenges. The course emphasizes research skills, preparing students to undertake independent dissertations that engage with real-world issues and policy debates. Alongside core modules, a variety of options allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, covering topics such as fair trade, ethical business, finance and capitalism, forced labour, economic instability, poverty and vulnerability, global environmental politics, and regional studies including Russia, Eurasia, and the Middle East. Opportunities for placement-based dissertations enable students to gain practical experience, conducting research in professional settings and applying their learning to policy, consultancy, or international development contexts. Graduates emerge with a nuanced understanding of the global political economy, equipped with analytical, research, and practical skills that prepare them for careers in international organisations, policy-making, consultancy, and academia, or for further research in the field.
