COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Journalism and Media provides a comprehensive combination of core and optional modules designed to develop both practical journalism skills and critical understanding of the media landscape. Core modules offer a strong foundation in multimedia journalism, ethics, and storytelling across different platforms. In the autumn term, students take Audio Features, Digital Journalism, and Media, Law and Ethics, which focus on producing high-quality journalistic content while addressing the legal and ethical responsibilities of media professionals. The spring term includes Digital Features and Video Features, where students refine their technical and creative abilities in digital and visual storytelling. Throughout the year, students undertake either a Dissertation in Journalism or a Journalism Project, allowing them to demonstrate their research and production skills through an in-depth written or practical work. A range of optional modules enables students to tailor their studies to personal interests and career goals, including Activist Media Practice, Global News Industries A, New Developments in Digital Media, Photography: Documentary, Landscape, Politics, Promotional Culture, and Race, Culture and the Media. Together, these modules prepare students to critically engage with global media transformations and to pursue diverse careers in journalism, broadcasting, digital content creation, and media analysis.
