COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education and International Development MA at the University of Sussex equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand and address the complex challenges facing education globally. The course blends theory and practice, providing a strong foundation in academic and research skills, as well as critical engagement with international education and development issues. Students explore key policy and practice issues and examine the theoretical frameworks that shape educational strategies and interventions worldwide. Core modules cover policy and practice issues, theories of international education and development, and advanced research skills, enabling students to design and conduct independent research projects. The program also offers options to tailor learning to individual interests, including areas such as curriculum, learning and society, gender and identities, quantitative analysis in international education, refugee education, and global governance of education and conflict. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to link local experiences with global perspectives, fostering a deep understanding of education’s role in promoting social justice, equity, and sustainable development. Graduates gain the analytical, research, and practical skills needed for careers in educational policy, international development, research, and non-governmental organisations, preparing them to make a meaningful impact on education systems and practices worldwide.
