COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Human Rights combines core modules, optional courses, and independent research to provide a comprehensive understanding of human rights theory, practice, and global challenges. Core modules include Human Rights and the Politics of Culture and Human Rights in International Relations in the autumn, which introduce key concepts, debates, and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of human rights. In the spring, Research Methods and Professional Skills develops practical research and analytical skills, while the summer term is dedicated to the Dissertation in Human Rights, allowing students to undertake independent research under expert supervision. To tailor their studies, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules, such as Activism for Development and Social Justice, Childhood and Youth in the Contemporary World, Civil and Political Rights, Critical Debates in Environment and Development, Fair Trade and Ethical Business, Forced Labour and Trafficking, Indigenous and Minority Rights, LGBTQI Rights, Socioeconomic Rights, Visual, Sensory and Digital Anthropology, and Women and Human Rights. Students may also undertake a Dissertation with Placement, gaining practical experience by volunteering with an organisation while conducting primary research linked to their dissertation topic. The program equips graduates with the knowledge, research skills, and practical experience needed for careers in human rights advocacy, policy, research, international organisations, and related fields, or for further academic study.
