COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Governance, Development and Public Policy provides students with a thorough grounding in political and economic approaches to development, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to engage effectively with public policy challenges. The course combines core modules and optional subjects to allow students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. Core modules include political economy perspectives on development, public policy for development, democracy and public policy, research design, and a dissertation focused on governance, development, and public policy. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a placement-based dissertation, providing practical experience in a real-world policy or development setting. Optional modules cover a wide range of topics, such as international development assistance, climate change and development, urban governance, health and nutrition, impact evaluation, and governance of violent conflict, allowing students to explore specific areas of interest in depth. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, developing students’ analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Graduates leave prepared to work in governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and policy-oriented roles, equipped to analyze complex development challenges, contribute to effective governance, and implement innovative solutions to social, economic, and environmental issues on a global scale.
