COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Gender Studies offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary approach to understanding gender, power, and social change through its combination of core and optional modules. The core modules, Critical Reading in Advanced Gender Theory and Gender Politics and Social Research, provide students with a strong theoretical and methodological foundation, engaging with feminist, queer, and intersectional perspectives. These modules develop critical thinking and research skills essential for analysing gender in political, social, and cultural contexts. In the spring and summer terms, students complete a Dissertation in Gender Studies, conducting independent research on a topic of personal and academic interest under expert supervision. To tailor their learning, students can choose from a diverse range of optional modules that reflect contemporary global debates and social justice issues. Options include Activism for Development and Social Justice, Cinematic Bodies, Hate Crime and Sexual Violence, Law, Religion and Human Rights, LGBTQI Rights: International and Comparative Perspectives, Sex, Work and Reproduction, Techno-Feminism History and Practice, The Existential Self: Chaos, Meaning and Human Potential, and Women and Human Rights. These modules encourage interdisciplinary exploration of gender in relation to law, media, activism, and identity. The course prepares graduates for careers in academia, advocacy, policy-making, and international development.
