COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Media, Gender and Sexuality offers a combination of core and optional modules that develop a critical understanding of gendered media practices and representations. The core modules provide a strong foundation in theory and research, including Gender and Representation, which examines how gender and sexuality are constructed and contested in media texts and cultures. Throughout the year, students also complete the Dissertation in Gender and Media, an independent research project that allows them to apply theoretical and methodological approaches to a topic of their choice. To tailor their studies, students can choose from a range of optional modules that reflect contemporary debates and emerging areas in gender and media scholarship. Options include Critical Reading in Advanced Gender Theory, Gender, Sexuality and Digital Culture, Media Theory and Research, Activist Media Practice, Cinematic Bodies, Media, Culture and Communication, and Techno-Feminism History and Practice. These modules encourage students to explore diverse perspectives on media, identity, technology, and activism. The course integrates academic inquiry with critical practice, helping students develop analytical, research, and communication skills. By combining rigorous theory with practical engagement, the program prepares graduates for careers in media, academia, cultural institutions, and advocacy work related to gender and social justice.
