COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Environment, Development and Policy offers a combination of core and optional modules designed to provide a thorough understanding of the relationship between environmental and developmental challenges. Core modules begin with Critical Debates in Development Theory and Political Economy of the Environment in the autumn, equipping students with a strong foundation in theory and policy analysis. In the spring, Research Methods and Professional Skills develops practical research abilities, while the summer term is dedicated to the Dissertation (EDP), allowing students to conduct independent research under expert supervision. To tailor their learning, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules that explore contemporary issues and interdisciplinary perspectives, including Activism for Development and Social Justice, Climate Change: Impacts and Adaptation, Critical Debates in Environment and Development, Decolonising, Diversifying and Demythologising, Fair Trade, Ethical Business & New Moral Economies, Knowledge, Power and Resistance, Poverty, Vulnerability and the Global Economy, The Global Politics of Environment, Justice and Development, and Visual, Sensory and Digital Anthropology. Students may also opt for a Dissertation with Placement, providing practical experience in applied research settings. The program equips graduates with critical, analytical, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in policy, international development, environmental management, research, and consultancy, as well as for further academic study in related fields.
