COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education MA at the University of Sussex provides students with a comprehensive foundation in contemporary educational theory and practice while equipping them with the skills to conduct independent research. Core modules cover essential areas such as educational theory, pedagogy, and the design and execution of a dissertation project, allowing students to investigate topics of personal and professional interest in depth. In the autumn term, students engage with modules on Education, Theory and Practice and Provocative Pedagogies, encouraging critical reflection on diverse approaches to teaching and learning. In the spring, students can choose from a range of options tailored to their interests, including Curriculum, Learning and Society, Gender and Identities, Global Childhoods, Quantitative Analysis in International Education, Refugees, Education and Development, and the Global Governance of Education and Conflict. This flexibility enables students to explore specialized areas and broaden their understanding of education in local, national, and global contexts. Throughout the course, students develop advanced analytical, reflective, and research skills, preparing them for careers in educational leadership, policy-making, research, or further academic study. The program fosters an understanding of how education shapes individuals and societies, promoting inclusive, equitable, and innovative practices.
