COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Corruption and Governance combines core and optional modules that provide a comprehensive understanding of corruption and equip students with the analytical and practical tools to tackle it effectively. Core modules lay the foundation for exploring corruption from multiple disciplinary perspectives. In the autumn term, students take Anti-Corruption, Research Methods and Approaches, and Understanding Corruption, which introduce key theories, definitions, and frameworks for analysing corrupt practices and designing prevention strategies. These modules also develop essential research and analytical skills needed for policy evaluation and academic inquiry. During the spring and summer terms, students complete a Corruption and Governance Dissertation, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to an independent research project on a specific corruption-related issue. The course also offers a range of optional modules, enabling students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Spring options include Corruption in Business and International Development, Economic Crime, International Anti-Corruption Actors, State Capture and Grand Corruption, and an Internship opportunity for practical experience. Together, these modules provide a nuanced understanding of corruption’s impact on governance, institutions, and societies, while preparing graduates for careers in government, international organisations, NGOs, and the private sector focused on anti-corruption and transparency initiatives.
