COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Conflict, Security and Development provides a strong academic foundation through a combination of core and optional modules that explore the links between insecurity and global development. Core modules are designed to build essential knowledge and analytical skills in international relations and global politics. In the autumn term, students study Conflict, Security and Development and New Security Challenges, which examine contemporary conflicts, security threats, and their implications for development and governance. The spring term includes Research Methods and Professional Skills, equipping students with the methodological tools to conduct independent and policy-relevant research. The program culminates in a summer dissertation, allowing students to investigate a chosen topic in depth. A wide range of optional modules enables students to tailor their studies according to their academic and professional interests. Spring options include Conflict, Peace, and the Places in Between; Decolonising, Diversifying and Demythologising; Managing Economic Instability; Migrant Transnationalism, Refugees and Diaspora; and Re-imagining Humanitarian Responses to Displacement. Other options, such as Religions, Cultures and Civilisations in International Relations, The Global Politics of Environment, Justice and Development, and Violence and (In)security: Feminist, Queer and Anti-colonial Perspectives, offer critical and interdisciplinary insights into global challenges. This structure prepares students for careers in policy, research, and international development.
