COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Law at Sussex provides a flexible and comprehensive program that combines core and optional modules to offer both foundational legal knowledge and opportunities for specialised study. Core modules give students essential skills in legal research, critical analysis, and academic writing, with Advanced Legal Research and Writing forming the basis for developing independent, high-level legal scholarship. The program also includes an LLM Dissertation, allowing students to explore a specific area of interest in depth and apply analytical and research skills to complex legal issues. A wide range of optional modules enables students to tailor their studies to individual career goals and interests, covering areas such as International Human Rights Law, International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Law, International Financial Law Regulation and Governance, Corporate Finance, Cybercrime Law, Criminal Law and Justice, Intellectual Property Law, and Environmental and Biodiversity Law. Other options examine contemporary challenges, including socioeconomic rights, human trafficking, hate crime, Indigenous and minority rights, and the governance of the global digital economy. The diverse module offerings allow students to engage with both theoretical perspectives and practical applications, preparing graduates for careers in law, policy, international organisations, advocacy, or further research.
