COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in International Law combines core and optional modules to provide a thorough grounding in the principles, theory, and practice of international law. Core modules equip students with essential skills in legal research, critical analysis, and writing. In the autumn term, students study Advanced Legal Research and Writing, Critiquing International Law, International Law in the Modern World, and Principles of International Law, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the legal frameworks that govern interactions between states, international organisations, and other global actors. In the spring and summer terms, students complete an LLM Dissertation, allowing them to explore a specialized topic in depth and apply their knowledge to contemporary legal challenges. Optional modules enable students to tailor their learning to their interests, including Civil and Political Rights: Contemporary Challenges, Governance of the Global Digital Economy, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, Indigenous and Minority Rights, International Investment Law, Socioeconomic Rights, Trade Law and the International System, and Women and Human Rights. These options provide both theoretical insight and practical application, helping students develop expertise in areas of international law with global significance. Graduates are well prepared for careers in international legal practice, policy-making, diplomacy, advocacy, or further academic research, combining analytical skills with a nuanced understanding of the political and social contexts of international law.
