COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in International Human Rights Law combines core and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of international legal frameworks and their application in protecting human rights. Core modules ensure students develop a strong foundation in key areas of international law, research, and writing. In the autumn term, students study Advanced Legal Research and Writing, Critiquing International Law, International Human Rights Law, and Principles of International Law, gaining essential analytical, theoretical, and practical skills. In the spring and summer terms, students complete an LLM Dissertation, allowing them to explore a specific human rights topic in depth and apply their knowledge to complex legal issues. A wide range of optional modules enables students to tailor their studies to their interests, including Civil and Political Rights: Contemporary Challenges, Human Rights Law Clinic, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, Indigenous and Minority Rights, International Environmental Law, Law, Religion, and Human Rights, LGBTQI Rights, Socioeconomic Rights, and Women and Human Rights. These options provide both theoretical insight and practical experience, equipping students to critically analyse global human rights issues and engage in advocacy or policy-making. Graduates leave with the skills and expertise to pursue careers in international human rights law, policy, research, and work with NGOs or international organisations, combining legal knowledge with practical application.
