COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice provides a comprehensive foundation through its core modules, equipping students with essential knowledge and research skills for advanced legal study. During the autumn term, students undertake modules such as Advanced Legal Research and Writing, Criminology in Theory and Method, and Issues in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, which develop critical thinking, analytical abilities, and an understanding of key legal and criminological frameworks. In the spring and summer terms, students complete an LLM Dissertation, allowing them to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice, guided by expert supervision. To complement the core modules, students can select from a range of optional modules that enable them to tailor the course to their interests and career goals. Options include subjects such as Cybercrime Law, Economic Crime, Hate Crime and Sexual Violence, Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, and Terrorism and the Internet. These modules address contemporary global challenges and provide insight into the complex intersection of law, technology, and social justice. The course structure ensures both academic depth and practical relevance, preparing graduates for careers in legal practice, policy-making, criminal justice agencies, and international organisations.
