COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB at Sussex provides a comprehensive foundation in English law while offering exposure to international and comparative legal systems, preparing students for diverse careers in law and related fields. In the first year, students study core subjects including the English legal system, public law, contract and tort law, alongside options such as foundations of Canadian law, globalisation, law and sustainability, justice, equality, and power. Year two deepens understanding with modules in European Union law, criminal law, land law, and further optional subjects like dispute resolution, professional skills, business law, employment law, and foundations of international law. Students also undertake legal research projects to develop analytical and practical skills. In the final year, core modules include equity and trusts, clinical legal education, and a dissertation, complemented by a wide range of options covering areas such as alternative dispute resolution, child law, company law, human rights, intellectual property, international trade, media law, public international law, sports law, and law ethics. The course emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling students to experience law in action and develop critical, analytical, and professional skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in legal practice, government, NGOs, corporate sectors, and other roles requiring expertise in law and its real-world applications.
