COURSE CURRICULUM

This combined politics and law degree provides students with a comprehensive grounding in both legal and political systems, enabling them to understand the intersections between law, governance, and society. In the first year, students study core modules including British Political History, the English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law, and an introduction to the European Union, alongside optional courses that allow exploration of globalisation, law, sustainability, justice, and equality. The second year builds on this foundation with modules such as Political and Social Change in Contemporary Europe, Public Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, and contemporary issues like the Far Right and the Politics of Immigration, while offering optional studies in Business Law, Employment Law, Foundations of International and Canadian Law, and research projects. In the third year, students focus on advanced legal topics including European Union Law, Equity and Trusts, and a dissertation, complemented by options spanning Alternative Dispute Resolution, Commercial and Environmental Law, Human Rights, Intellectual Property, International Trade Law, and contemporary political topics such as Political Change and the Politics of Feeling. Across all three years, students are encouraged to tailor their studies through a wide range of options, developing analytical, research, and advocacy skills. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, including clinical legal education, preparing graduates for careers in law, politics, government, international organizations, or related sectors.
