COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with International Relations course at Sussex provides a comprehensive foundation in legal principles alongside a deep understanding of global politics. In the first year, students study core modules including the English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law, and Foundations of International Relations, while exploring global issues and optional topics such as Globalisation, Law and Sustainability, and Justice, Equality and Society. In the second year, the curriculum advances with modules such as Public Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Introduction to International Political Economy, and Security and Insecurity in Global Politics. Students can further tailor their studies with options including Business Law, Commercial Contract Law, Employment Law, Foundations of International Law, Law, Innovation and Technology, and Legal Research Projects. The third year focuses on European Union Law, Equity and Trusts, and Clinical Legal Education, alongside a dissertation that allows students to engage in independent research. Optional modules cover a wide array of areas, including Alternative Dispute Resolution, Commercial and Sports Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Asylum Law, Intellectual Property, International Trade Law, Law and Development, and Law, Gender and Sexuality. This combination of law and international relations equips students with analytical, practical, and research skills, preparing them for careers in legal practice, policy, international law, diplomacy, and global governance, while providing opportunities for experiential learning through clinics and real-world case studies.
