COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with Criminology course at Sussex combines comprehensive legal study with criminological insight, offering an interdisciplinary approach to understanding crime, justice, and the law. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through core modules in the English legal system, contract and tort law, criminological theory, and the criminal justice system, with options in globalisation, law, sustainability, and justice and equality. The second year builds on this foundation with modules in criminal law, public and land law, punishment and penology, and optional modules in business, commercial, employment, international, and technology law, as well as legal research and governance, allowing students to broaden their understanding of law in societal and professional contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced legal study with modules in European Union law, equity and trusts, clinical legal education, and a dissertation, alongside a wide array of optional modules covering areas such as human rights, international law, commercial law, environmental law, media and entertainment law, neurocriminology, transnational litigation, and crimes against humanity. The program emphasizes practical skills through opportunities such as the Sussex Law Clinics and links with law firms for competitions in mooting, advocacy, negotiation, and mediation. Graduates leave equipped with a strong foundation in both law and criminology, practical legal experience, and the analytical, research, and critical thinking skills required for careers in legal practice, criminal justice, policy, and related fields.
