COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB with a language component at Sussex offers students a comprehensive grounding in English law alongside exposure to European, International, and Canadian legal systems, while also providing the opportunity to study a language such as Arabic, British Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, or Spanish at various levels from beginners to advanced. In the first year, students cover core legal subjects including the English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law, Public Law, and explore foundations in Canadian law, globalisation, sustainability, and justice, equality, and society. Language study begins alongside these core modules, giving students the chance to develop practical communication skills. The second year builds on this foundation with Criminal Law, Land Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, and options in areas such as Business Law, International Law, Employment Law, and Law, Innovation and Technology, while continuing language development. In the third year, students complete European Union Law, Equity and Trusts, Clinical Legal Education, and a dissertation, with further options spanning commercial, human rights, intellectual property, media, and international law, alongside advanced language study. This structure integrates theoretical and practical legal knowledge, develops analytical and persuasive skills, and prepares students for diverse legal careers while supporting multilingual proficiency.
