COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology degree at Sussex provides a comprehensive grounding in the science of human behaviour, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience across a wide range of specialisms. In the first year, students study foundational topics including cognition in clinical contexts, psychobiology, neuroscience and behaviour, the psychology of childhood, and data analysis, as well as broader modules on individuals, groups, and psychology as a science. The second year builds on this foundation with core modules in cognitive and developmental psychology, brain and behaviour, neural circuits, quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistics, and principles of neuronal function. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics including the structure and function of the human brain, drugs, brain and behaviour, and complete a research dissertation. Throughout the degree, students can choose from a wide range of optional modules tailored to their interests, covering areas such as biological psychology, clinical psychology, forensic psychology, educational psychology, social psychology, cognitive neuroscience, positive psychology, health psychology, organisational psychology, and the psychology of sleep, memory, prejudice, and mental health. The program equips students with strong analytical, research, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in clinical, research, healthcare, education, and other applied psychology fields, as well as further postgraduate study.
