COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics with Data Science degree offers a strong foundation in both physics and computational techniques, preparing students to analyse and interpret complex data in scientific contexts. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge in quantum physics, mechanics, mathematical methods, and data structures, while gaining practical experience in laboratory work and data analysis. The second year deepens understanding through advanced modules in electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, thermal physics, and scientific computing, alongside applied machine learning—bridging physics concepts with modern data-driven methods. In the final year, students explore specialised topics such as atomic and condensed state physics, linear statistical models, and statistical inference. They can also choose from a variety of advanced options, including neural networks, lasers and photonics, quantum mechanics, and semiconductor devices. A major final-year project allows students to apply their skills to real research, working alongside experienced physicists and data scientists. The course combines theoretical study with computational and experimental training, ensuring a well-rounded scientific education.
