COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics and Astrophysics course provides a comprehensive foundation in the principles of physics while allowing students to explore specialised areas of astrophysics. In Year 1, students study key topics such as mechanics, waves, fields, and modern physics, alongside mathematical methods and laboratory work that build essential analytical and experimental skills. The second year deepens understanding through modules like electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and thermal physics, with practical training in laboratories and optional studies in areas such as scientific computing and advanced mathematics. By the final year, students engage with more complex subjects, including atomic, nuclear, and condensed state physics, as well as stellar and planetary physics, connecting theoretical knowledge to real-world applications. The BSc Final Year Project allows students to undertake independent research, applying their learning to solve complex scientific problems. Additional options like lasers and photonics, quantum mechanics, semiconductors, and financial derivatives give flexibility to tailor the degree to personal interests or career goals. Throughout the course, students develop strong quantitative, computational, and research skills that prepare them for diverse careers in science, technology, or engineering, or for further academic study in physics and astrophysics.
