COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mathematics and Finance BSc combines rigorous mathematical training with practical applications in finance, preparing students for careers in financial analysis, banking, investment, risk management, and related fields. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules in analysis, linear algebra, computational mathematics, and finance principles, alongside an introduction to financial institutions and markets. The second year develops this foundation further with advanced topics in calculus of several variables, ordinary differential equations, probability, numerical analysis, and corporate and international finance. Students also engage with statistics and real analysis to enhance their quantitative and analytical skills. In the third year, the focus shifts to specialised areas and applied projects, including partial differential equations and a capstone Maths Matters project. Students can tailor their learning through a wide range of options such as applied numerical analysis, financial mathematics, financial derivatives, financial risk management, cryptography, machine learning, Monte Carlo simulations, and statistical inference. The course emphasises the use of industry-standard software and coding for financial modelling and data analysis, including Python and MATLAB. With guidance from academic advisers and opportunities for practical application, students graduate with the skills to analyse complex data, solve quantitative problems, and make informed financial decisions, ready for careers in finance, analytics, and beyond.
