COURSE CURRICULUM

The FinTech BSc at the University of Sussex equips students with a combination of finance, technology, and analytical skills required for careers in modern financial services. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge in programming, mathematics, finance, accounting, and financial institutions, supported by modules in Introduction to Programming, Programming Concepts, Data Structures and Algorithms, Principles of Finance, and Further Programming. This year emphasizes both computational thinking and financial literacy, preparing students for the integration of technology and finance. In Year 2, students build on these skills through advanced topics such as FinTech and Financial Transformation, Databases, Software Engineering, Statistics and Introductory Econometrics, and Corporate Governance and Ethics, while having the opportunity to choose from optional modules like Applied Machine Learning, Introduction to Data Science, Corporate and International Finance, Theory of Investments, Principles of Banking, Computer Networks, and Introduction to Economics. Year 3 focuses on practical application and specialization, with the FinTech Research Project as the core module, allowing students to explore their interests in depth. Additional options cover Alternative Investment Funds, Blockchains and Crypto Assets, Financial Econometrics, Financial Risk Management, Neural Networks, Digital Banking and FinTech, Cryptography, Web Applications and Services, Human-Computer Interaction, Financial Derivatives, International Financial Management, Trading Strategies, and Advanced Natural Language Engineering. This course combines technical expertise, financial knowledge, and real-world application to prepare graduates for roles in financial institutions, digital banking, and technology-driven finance sectors.
