COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Economics degree provides a comprehensive foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and practical policy analysis, equipping students with the skills to address real-world economic challenges. In the first year, students build core knowledge through modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, applied mathematics, and finance, alongside options exploring contemporary economic issues. The second year develops advanced analytical skills, with core modules in econometrics, mathematical statistics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics, supported by options such as data coding and visualisation, applied statistics for finance, environmental economics, and global economic history. Students gain experience in applying quantitative methods to analyse complex economic phenomena, preparing them for higher-level study and professional work. In the final year, students deepen their expertise through modules including applied econometrics, behavioural economics, industrial organisation, international trade, climate change economics, monetary theory and policy, labour economics, and topics in growth and inequality. Students also complete an applied economics dissertation, allowing them to conduct independent research and develop critical thinking and data analysis skills. Additional options such as economics of education, crime, sports, financial economics, and the economics of development enable students to tailor the degree to their interests. Across all years, the program integrates practical skills with rigorous economic theory, preparing graduates for careers in finance, government, consultancy, international organisations, and further study.
