COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Finance BSc at the University of Sussex is a three-year program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economic theory, financial principles, and quantitative methods while developing the advanced skills required for careers in financial services and related fields. In Year 1, students establish essential knowledge through core modules such as Contemporary Economic Issues, Introduction to Economics, Principles of Finance, Introduction to Mathematics for Finance and Economics, Financial Institutions and Markets, Introduction to Statistics, Macroeconomics 1, and Microeconomics 1. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including Introduction to Econometrics, Macroeconomics 2, Microeconomics 2, Theory of Investments, and Corporate and International Finance, while offering options such as Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Applied Statistics for Finance and Economics, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Data Coding and Visualisation, Environmental Economics, Finance for Development, Global Economic History, and Principles of Banking. Year 3 focuses on advanced and applied topics, including Financial Econometrics and the Applied Economics and Finance Project, alongside a wide range of optional modules such as Alternative Investment Funds, Blockchains and Crypto Assets, Climate Change Economics, Digital Banking and FinTech, Labour Economics, International Trade, Financial Risk Management, Trading Strategies, and various specialised economic and finance subjects. Across the program, students gain theoretical expertise, practical financial skills, and quantitative proficiency, preparing them for careers in investment, banking, consultancy, and policy roles while equipping them to address complex economic and financial challenges in a global context.
