COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry course provides a strong foundation in theoretical and practical aspects of the subject, developing essential laboratory and analytical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to core chemical principles through modules such as Chemistry Laboratory 1 and 2, Electrons in Atoms and Molecules, and Reactivity of Organic Compounds and Elements. They also begin building transferable skills for scientific communication and data handling. The second year advances understanding of chemical structure and reactivity through modules like Structure Determination, Symmetry and Molecular Spectroscopy, and Mechanism in Organic and Biological Chemistry. Students gain hands-on experience in laboratory techniques and research communication while exploring topics such as organometallic chemistry and reaction kinetics. In the final year, the focus shifts toward research and application, with modules such as Advanced Techniques in Experimental Chemistry, Computational Chemistry Projects, and an extended Chemistry Project. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas like Drug Discovery, Green Chemistry, Catalysis, or Astrochemistry. The combination of theoretical study, experimental work, and research training equips graduates with the knowledge and practical expertise needed for careers in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, materials science, environmental research, and related scientific or industrial fields.
