COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng provides a strong foundation in the principles and applications of modern engineering, with a focus on sustainability, design, and innovation. In Year 1, students gain core knowledge through modules such as Electrical Circuits and Devices, Engineering Maths, Materials and Manufacturing Processes, and Programming for Engineers. They also study Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Computer-Aided Design, applying their learning in hands-on projects like the Global Design Challenge. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules in Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Design for Manufacture, and Numerical Modelling, while students also develop key professional and managerial skills and explore control systems and electromechanics. In the final year, students apply advanced design and analytical techniques through modules such as Business and Project Management, Heat Transfer, and Design of Mechanisms and Machines. The Individual Project allows students to research and design innovative engineering solutions, often linked to real-world challenges. Optional modules, including Dynamics of Machines and Vehicles, Low Emission Vehicle Propulsion, New Generation Vehicle Technology, and Sustainability in Engineering, allow for specialisation in emerging areas. Throughout the degree, students combine theoretical understanding with practical experience, developing the technical and leadership skills needed for careers in engineering and sustainable technology development.
