COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sociology degree offers a comprehensive exploration of society, culture, and human behaviour, combining core theoretical foundations with diverse optional modules that allow students to shape their learning around their interests. In the first year, students build a strong base in sociological thinking through modules such as 21st Century Sociology, Critical Reading and Writing for Sociologists, and Themes and Perspectives in Sociology, along with studies on gender, life course, and understanding the familiar in new ways. The second year focuses on research skills, with core training in both quantitative and qualitative methods, while optional modules explore areas such as class and culture, health across the lifecourse, digital societies, migration, race, education, emotions, and the politics of work. By the final year, students apply their learning through an independent Sociology Project, demonstrating their ability to conduct original research. They can also select advanced modules covering themes such as capitalism and ecological crisis, coloniality and inequality, digital activism, sexuality, family, identity, and social justice. This structure ensures that graduates leave with critical thinking, analytical, and research skills essential for careers in policy, social research, education, and beyond, as well as a deep understanding of the complexities shaping modern societies.
