COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics degree offers a comprehensive understanding of political systems, ideologies, and global developments, combining theory with real-world perspectives. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as British Political History, Contemporary Issues in Politics, Explanatory Concepts in Political Science, International Politics, and Research Skills and Methods. These provide the essential analytical tools to understand political institutions, behavior, and international relations. In the second year, core modules like Comparative Public Policy, European Politics, and Modern Political Thought deepen knowledge of governance and political theory, while a wide range of options—covering topics such as capitalism, feminism, authoritarianism, and regional politics (including the EU, India, and the USA)—allow students to tailor their studies. The final year focuses on advanced themes and global challenges, with options exploring authoritarianism, environmental politics, populism, political psychology, corruption, and post-truth politics. Students can also undertake independent study or internships to gain practical experience. This flexible and research-informed course encourages critical thinking, debate, and the ability to analyse complex social and political issues. Graduates emerge with strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers in politics, journalism, policy analysis, international relations, and public service.
