COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and Philosophy degree at Sussex provides a comprehensive and flexible study structure designed to develop deep analytical, critical, and research skills. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation through core modules such as British Political History, Explanatory Concepts in Political Science, and Reason and Argument, with further study in Early Modern Philosophy, Foundations of Politics, and Research Skills and Methods. Optional modules like Existentialism, Science and Reason, and Philosophy of Religion allow for intellectual exploration across key philosophical themes. In Year 2, students continue to strengthen their understanding through core modules in European Politics and Modern Political Thought, alongside diverse options such as Ancient Philosophy, Epistemology, Kant, Philosophy of Mind, and Politics and Issues in various countries including India, the USA, and the EU. By Year 3, students can fully tailor their studies to personal interests, choosing from a wide range of advanced topics including Environmental Politics, Ethics, Islamic and Modern European Philosophy, and Political Psychology. Additional options such as an independent study or internship, and modules like Populism and Politics or The Politics of (Post-)Truth, enable practical engagement and intellectual depth. This structure equips graduates with analytical insight, communication skills, and global political awareness.
