COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) degree at Sussex provides a broad and flexible learning experience across three interrelated disciplines. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through core modules such as Introduction to Mathematics for Finance and Economics, Reason and Argument, Macroeconomics 1, and Microeconomics 1. Alongside these, they can explore optional topics like British Political History, Existentialism, Early Modern Philosophy, and Foundations of Politics. Year 2 allows for further specialisation and the development of analytical and theoretical skills through modules including Macroeconomics 2, Microeconomics 2, Modern Political Thought, European Politics, Philosophy of Mind, and Statistics and Introductory Econometrics. A wide range of additional options, from Environmental Economics and Global Economic History to Feminism and the Politics of Gender, enable students to tailor their studies. In Year 3, students deepen their expertise through advanced and applied modules such as Applied Econometrics, Behavioural Economics, Climate Change Economics, International Trade, Ethics, and Political Psychology. They can also explore contemporary themes like Populism and Politics, The Politics of (Post-)Truth, and Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence. Across all years, students gain rigorous training in reasoning, research, and critical analysis, preparing them for diverse and impactful careers.
