COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communications BA provides a structured and flexible program over three years, combining core modules with options to tailor learning to individual interests. In the first year, students build a foundation in contemporary media and digital culture through modules such as critical approaches to media, foundations in media and digital culture, media analysis, and digital technology’s impact on society. The second year deepens this knowledge with core modules on content creation, understanding media work, and live research in the media, while offering a variety of options including media and sustainability, popular culture, sound and society, digital culture, media representation, and understanding race and culture in the media. These allow students to explore specific areas of interest and emerging trends. In the final year, students focus on independent research through a dissertation and modules on communicating research, while additional options such as celebrity and media, feminism and digital culture, media and conflict, public relations, social media activism, AI, community media, and utopian cultural politics provide opportunities to specialize further. Across all three years, the program emphasizes critical thinking, practical research, and engagement with contemporary media issues, preparing students to navigate and contribute to media, cultural, and communication industries with insight, adaptability, and professional competence.
