COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Adult Nursing program is structured over two years, with a balanced combination of theoretical modules and clinical practice. In Year 1, students begin with Nursing in Society, a module that explores the broader social, political, and professional context of healthcare delivery, developing a strong foundation in the values and expectations of nursing practice. Alongside this, two modules—Health and Human Development 1 and 2—focus on understanding normal physiology, human development across the lifespan, and common health conditions, equipping students with the essential biological and psychological knowledge to support adult patients. These academic modules are complemented by Adult Nursing Practice 1, a clinical placement module where students apply their learning in real-world settings under the supervision of experienced practitioners. This first-year practice helps students build core clinical skills, communication abilities, and confidence in delivering compassionate, patient-centred care.In Year 2, the focus shifts to more advanced and leadership-oriented topics. Managing Complex Care prepares students to assess, plan, and deliver care for adults with multiple or long-term conditions, promoting safe and effective clinical decision-making. The Leading and Managing Care module enhances students’ leadership capabilities, preparing them to contribute to healthcare team management and service improvement. The Dissertation module allows students to explore a specific area of interest through independent research, contributing to evidence-based nursing knowledge. Adult Nursing Practice 2 continues clinical training at a more advanced level, ensuring students are confident and competent in delivering and leading care in complex settings. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on integrating theoretical understanding with clinical application to prepare students for registration as adult nurses and future healthcare leaders. This comprehensive structure ensures graduates are not only clinically competent but also reflective, knowledgeable professionals equipped to meet the evolving demands of modern healthcare.
