The LLM in Criminal Law, Evidence and Procedure includes a well-rounded set of modules designed to deepen understanding of contemporary issues in criminal justice while integrating legal, psychological, and international perspectives. The module Contemporary Criminal Law examines the development and current challenges of criminal law, encouraging critical analysis of legal reforms, high-profile cases, and policy debates. Criminal Evidence and Psychology brings a unique interdisciplinary approach by combining legal doctrine with psychological insights into memory, perception, and witness reliability. Students explore how psychological research influences the presentation and interpretation of evidence in courtrooms, gaining hands-on experience using psychological lab equipment to assess witness testimony.International Criminal Justice Systems broadens the student’s perspective by exploring how different countries structure and deliver criminal justice. It includes comparative analysis of legal systems, institutions, and practices, with a focus on international cooperation, human rights, and global crime. This module equips students with a global outlook on justice, useful for careers in international law, human rights advocacy, or policy work.The course also features two independent project pathways. Independent Project A allows students to undertake a research-based dissertation, developing expertise in a chosen area of law or justice through critical inquiry and analysis. Independent Project B offers a placement-based route, providing valuable real-world experience in a legal, governmental, or criminal justice setting. This practical element enables students to apply their academic learning to real professional contexts, develop networking opportunities, and gain insight into future career paths.Together, these modules provide a rigorous academic and applied foundation for careers in legal practice, criminal justice policy, law enforcement, or further postgraduate research.
