COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law with Criminology degree at the University of Suffolk offers an integrated program that combines the study of core legal principles with criminological theory and analysis. In the first year, students are introduced to essential areas of law including Law and Lawyering, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Contract Law. These modules provide a solid foundation in legal knowledge and practice. Simultaneously, the criminology component begins with modules such as Introduction to Criminology, Principles of Psychology for Criminology, and Contemporary Issues in Criminology, which allow students to explore the psychological, social, and political contexts of crime and deviance.In the second year, students continue to build on their legal expertise through mandatory modules in Tort Law, Land Law, Equity and Trusts, and Research Methods in Law. These modules are critical for understanding private law, property rights, and the principles of fairness and justice. Alongside these, students examine the structure and function of the criminal justice system in the Criminal Justice module, linking theoretical criminological concepts with practical legal frameworks.The final year allows for more academic freedom and specialisation. Core modules include EU Law, Administrative Law, and an Independent Project, where students undertake in-depth research into a legal or criminological topic of personal or professional interest. Additionally, students can choose one optional law module and one optional criminology module, allowing them to tailor their studies towards specific career goals or areas of interest. The course is structured to provide a clear, progressive development of knowledge and skills across both disciplines.Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, research, and analytical abilities, as well as practical legal skills. This multidisciplinary degree prepares graduates for a wide range of careers in the legal profession, criminal justice system, public policy, or further postgraduate study in law or criminology.
