COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation Science course is structured across three years to develop students’ scientific, practical, and analytical skills for careers in wildlife conservation and ecological research. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules in scientific and research skills, cell biology and genetics, ecology, and biodiversity. These core subjects provide a critical understanding of life sciences and environmental systems, equipping students with the knowledge needed to study and manage natural ecosystems effectively.In the second year, the course deepens its focus on species and habitat-level conservation through modules in animal behaviour, vertebrate biology, and conservation biology. Students can tailor their learning with optional modules such as wildlife surveying, habitat surveying with GIS mapping, and plant biology, gaining essential field techniques and data analysis experience. This year supports the development of practical skills in ecological monitoring and species management, essential for professional work in conservation.The third year allows students to specialise further, with a wide range of optional modules including marine biology, entomology, ornithology, herpetology, primatology, ecotoxicology, and advanced ecological research skills. Additional options like science communication and wildlife media, and international field courses, provide unique opportunities to expand practical and outreach capabilities. The mandatory dissertation allows students to apply their cumulative learning to an independent research project in a chosen area of interest. This final year prepares graduates for a range of roles in ecological consultancy, conservation organisations, research, and policy-making, as well as for further academic study. The program’s blend of theoretical knowledge, applied fieldwork, and optional specialisms ensures students graduate with both the expertise and versatility to thrive in the dynamic field of wildlife and environmental conservation.
