COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science course is structured across three years to develop a strong foundation in key areas of sport, exercise, and health science, while preparing students for diverse roles within sport performance and clinical settings. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of psychology and coaching, physiology and nutrition, and sports performance analysis. Biomechanics is explored through the lens of strength and conditioning, helping students understand how the body moves and performs. The Suffolk Graduate module supports the development of academic and professional skills.In the second year, the focus shifts towards enhancing athletic performance and public health. Modules include the psychological aspects of performance, the role of physical activity and nutrition in promoting health, and methods for supporting athletes in high-performance settings. Students also develop practical data visualisation skills to interpret and present complex performance data effectively. The Suffolk Graduate 2 module continues to build students’ employability and reflective practice.In the final year, students explore advanced topics such as talent development in elite environments, clinical exercise physiology, and contemporary issues in sports medicine. Athlete conditioning and targeted nutrition for sport and exercise are addressed in depth. The research project allows students to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world issue or area of interest, reinforcing independent research capabilities. The Suffolk Graduate 3 module supports the transition to professional life, encouraging students to consolidate their personal and career development. Through a balance of theory, practice, and applied research, the course prepares graduates for careers in elite sport, public health, and clinical exercise settings, equipping them with the knowledge, technical abilities, and professional skills to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry.
